The real draw for most, though, will be the chance to once again take control of Vergil, and he doesn’t disappoint. It’s a shame that ray tracing comes at such a cost when playing at 4K, but it still looks glorious without it, and if you want to make use of Turbo or Legendary Dark Knight Modes they can’t be used in conjunction with it anyway. Including all of the additional content released for the original version and more, it makes a great game even better, it’s as simple as that. Ultimately, the addition of Vergil, a more methodical and stylish avatar, leads to a very different playing experience as the character has his own moveset and unique way of combatting creatures. The character is now playable and comes equipped with three weapons – Yamato sword, the Beowulf gauntlets and the Mirage Edge. The biggest highlight of Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, however, has to be the addition of Vergil, Dante’s older brother. We highly suggest completing the game before giving it a go. In this mode, the campaign throws hordes and hordes of enemies your way. If Turbo Mode isn’t challenging enough, the Legendary Dark Knight Mode will be. This is great for those who’ve already played Devil May Cry 5 but would love to re-experience the game in a more challenging way. There’s also a newly introduced Turbo Mode, which allows you to play through the game 20% faster. Whichever way you decide to play, all the options look great. Forgo ray tracing and you’ll be able to play at a whopping 120fps. ![]() You also have the option to play at dynamic 4K resolution with ray tracing at 30fps or 1080p for 60fps. Those gameplay tip screens are gone in seconds. ![]() Of course, it also means near-instantaneous loading too. That means better lighting, physics, and textures. Everything has been enhanced to showcase the power of next-gen. With Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition improves on that winning formula.įirstly, as expected, the visuals and loading times have improved. The combat, the characters, the graphics and the music are all exceptional. And as Daniel points out, this is as refined as Devil May Cry has ever been. Running the risk of rehashing another review for the same title, I’m not going to go through the story and gameplay mechanics again. Instead, this expanded re-release of the already exceptional Devil May Cry 5 adds additional content and manages to improve on the overall experience too. This Capcom release doesn’t just settle for being a higher-resolution port of the Japanese-styled action game released a year and a half ago on the PlayStation 4. However, you might be in for a surprise with Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition for the PS5. With a slew of new games out for the PlayStation 5, you probably wouldn’t consider a remaster as a must-have title to show off your next-gen console. Is the addition of Vergil enough to convince fans to purchase the Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition? Well, yes.
